The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.
Isaiah 40:28
“I can't reach it, my arms and my legs are just too tired!” My daughter exclaimed as she threw herself on the ground.
I was asking her to pick up her shoes in the living room, and she missed one…when I pointed it out to her, she flopped on the ground and made the announcement that she just couldn’t do it. When I asked her why she was so tired, she said “I just ran out!” “Ran out of what?” I asked. “Everything, I ran out of everything!”
Clearly, she was over cleaning up! I helped her grab the last of her shoes and let her go play.
But, I was stuck with an image…me in front of Jesus, throwing myself on the ground exclaiming, “I just can’t do it, I am too tired, I have completely run out of everything!” I see Him leaning down and saying to me, as He helps me up…” I know you are tired. I know it is hard. But I am with you, I will renew your strength, I will help you.” In His word, He promises us that He is the everlasting God – that He never grows tired or weary. He tells us in Isaiah that “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:29-31
Life can be super hard, and it seems like everything is pulling for our attention, our time and our energy. It is really easy for us to be depleted and feel like we are just done. But we have this amazing promise that when we put our hope in Jesus, He will give us what we need. We partner with Him, and He increases our power. He strengthens us to do the things He has called us to do.
Next time you feel like flopping on the ground in a fit – completely exhausted…remember where your strength comes from…call on Him; let Him come renew your heart and mind.
