“I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you’ve said about me come true.”
(Luke 1:38)
Obedience. Ugh, it’s hard, right? When God asks us to do something big, scary, or just plain
crazy, our first instinct is often, “Yeah…no thanks, God. I’m gonna sit this one out.”
But let’s talk about Mary. Sweet Mary. She was just a young girl, probably living her quiet life, minding her own business—and then, BAM! Gabriel shows up, all glowy and angelic, and drops this life-changing bombshell: “Hey girl, you’re going to have a baby! Oh, and not just any baby. You’ll be carrying the Son of God.”
Like…what?! If there was ever a moment to say, “Uh, no thanks, hard pass,” this was it. Can’t you imagine her thinking, “Wait, hold up. I’ve never even been with a guy, and now I’m going to carry the King of Kings? Gabriel, you’ve got the wrong girl!”
And not just that—she wasn’t just saying yes to having a baby. She was saying yes to being a mom. To the long nights, the uncertainty, the weight of raising the Savior of the world. Moms, we know how overwhelming it feels to carry the responsibility of shaping little lives. Now imagine carrying that responsibility! Yet Mary didn’t run away. She didn’t make excuses. Instead, she said:
“I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you’ve said about me come true.” (Luke 1:38)
Y’all, that’s bravery on a whole other level. She didn’t have all the answers. She didn’t have a clue how it would all work out. But she trusted God anyway. She chose obedience, even when it was terrifying.
So let me ask you—what’s God asking of you today? Maybe it’s something hard. Maybe it feels impossible. Maybe it makes you want to throw your hands up and say, “Not me, God. I can’t do this.” Maybe it’s motherhood itself—whether you’re stepping into it, in the thick of it, or feeling like you’re not enough.
If that’s you, remember this: Gabriel also told Mary something powerful, something that’s just as true for you and me today:
“For nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37)
Whatever it is, trust Him. Be brave. Say yes. Because God doesn’t just call the equipped—He equips the called. And with Him, nothing is impossible.
Reflection: What’s one step of obedience you can take today, trusting that God will handle the impossible?
Lord, thank You for reminding me that nothing is impossible with You. Forgive me for the times I’ve doubted or let fear hold me back. Help me to trust You like Mary did, to say “yes” even when I don’t have all the answers. For the moms reading this, Lord, strengthen them in their calling, whether they’re just starting out or deep in the trenches. Remind us that You equip us for the tasks You give us. Thank You for walking with me through every step of obedience. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
