For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment.
2 Timothy 1:7
Fear.
It sucks.
It steals.
It confines.
It crushes.
What are you afraid of?
I'm afraid of a lot of things. One of my worst fears is driving off the road into a river and drowning in my car. I'm also afraid of something happening to my kids or my husband. And don't get me started on snakes—I'm stupidly terrified of them. Driving in the summer is a nightmare, because they are all over the road and I inevitably have to run over them.
Especially after something unexpected or bad happens in my life, I let fear take over. I start thinking about all the "what ifs," and it takes me to dark places in my mind that should never exist. Sometimes, fear is crippling.
Fear makes us run away from good things. It makes us doubt ourselves, our loved ones, and even God.
I'm afraid of being alone, ignored, rejected, made fun of, belittled, disappointed, or being a disappointment. I'm afraid of not being good enough, pretty enough, thin enough—of just not being enough.
But then the truth hits me—I AM enough. I will never be alone. I AM going to be okay, no matter what comes…because I have Jesus. I have to change my thinking. I have to replace fear WITH SOMETHING. I can't let fear win. I have to replace fear with TRUTH.
In the Bible, it tells us "DO NOT BE AFRAID" 365 times. Is that a coincidence? I don't think so. It's a reminder that we have nothing to fear. Nothing. Not death. Not loneliness. Not rejection. Not pain. Not even snakes.
This verse is one of my favorites, it's a powerful reminder:
"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." (Isaiah 43:2)
As you walk into that doctor's office for test results, don't be afraid—He's with you.
As you deal with parenting struggles with your babies, don't be afraid—He's with you.
As you enter the courtroom for a judgment to be made, don't be afraid—He's with you.
As you navigate through struggles in your marriage, don't be afraid—He's with you.
As you face challenges in your job, don't be afraid—He's with you.
And even after all of that—He is STILL with you.
As a mom, fear often creeps in when I think about my children's future, their safety, and their well-being. But I choose to trust in God's protection and His plan for their lives.
When we listen to fear, we actually disobey God and doubt His goodness. Fear tells us lies about who God is and who we are in Him. Instead, let's choose to trust in His promises and His unfailing love.
So as you go through this day, remember—FEAR is not cool. Fear is a LIAR. YOU don't have to be afraid.
Your Fellow Able Mom,
Heather
Jesus, Thank You for Your constant presence and unwavering love. Forgive us for the times we've let fear control our thoughts and actions. Help us to replace fear with Your truth and courage. Remind us daily that we are enough in Your eyes and that we can trust You with our fears and anxieties. May Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. In His name, Amen.
Let's face this day with courage, knowing that God goes before us and walks beside us in every moment. Fear has no power over us when we stand firm in His promises.
