”...do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble.“
Proverbs 3:21-23 NIV
Slow down…listen…take your time…pay attention…be careful. These are all sayings we tell our children on a daily basis; however, we as moms don’t apply this to our lives. Moms are always on the go. We don’t have time to slow down and take our time. In the midst of crossing off our checklist we surely only heard half of what you just told us, if that, so we aren’t really listening.
Well moms I have surely learned my lesson, and I plan on slowing down. Twice in one month I broke very expensive items because I did not slow down and listen. Let me briefly share with you what happened.
Incident 1: I was running late to work and was trying to park as close to the front door as possible to shave off a few minutes of my tardiness. As I approached where I normally parked I heard a voice say, “Just park in your usual spot”. I did not listen. I proceeded to park closer to the front door. Then there was a loud sound. I looked to my right and my side mirror had broken off and shattered. I was so upset. All I could think was, “If only I had listened to that voice”.
Incident 2: I’m rushing to clean the house while my 2 month old daughter was napping and my two year old was calmly playing. I began by gathering many items. Trying to fit them all in just two hands. I was struggling, but I did not want to make another trip. As I tried to fit all of the items in my hands, I heard a voice say, “Leave some of the items and come back for the rest”. But who has time to make two trips, so I grabbed all the items and took two steps and there was a loud sound. My Apple Watch laid there face down on the floor. The entire screen shattered. I was so upset. All I could think was, “If only I had listened to that voice”.
I began to reflect on those two experiences. There was a huge message for me there. Slow down…listen…and trust. It’s important that we learn to use wisdom. Wisdom bestows well-being. It brings us peace and prosperity, and it can save us money. So often we hear these messages on what to do in life, and we simply ignore them because we think we know best. When we should be trusting the Lord with our heart and lean not on our own understanding. Let me remind you that the Lord can send you a message about the simplest situation to the biggest one. Mamas trust what you hear, trust your gut, and trust in the Lord because he says when we do, He will set our paths straight.
Tell me about a time you heard a message and did not slow down, listen and apply.
