For the Lord sees not as man sees;
for man looks on the outward appearance but the Lord looks on the heart.
1 Samuel 16:7
In the early years of my walk with God, I found myself in a place in my life where I was constantly comparing myself to other women. I compared my beauty, talents, gifts, and self-worth. And in the end, I was not pretty enough to be acknowledged by others. I cannot even begin to count the amount of beauty products and treatments I tried to “beauty-fy” myself. I struggled with self-confidence, insecurities, fear of not being good enough, and based my self-worth on what others said or thought of me.
As I began to dig deeper into God’s Word, I came across this scripture and it forever changed my life. I learned that outer beauty is admired by people, but what God values even more is what is on the inside, our heart. God does not see us the way the world sees us. This revelation changed my perspective of myself. When I looked in the mirror I saw God’s beautiful creation. Yes, flaws and all! It inspired me to work on myself and allow the Word of God to transform me from the inside out. As I did this, I discovered that people were noticing and commenting more on my outer appearance. They began to see me the way I saw myself. God’s beautiful creation! I felt that I had finally unlocked the inner beauty that was waiting to shine on the outside.
I do not know where you are in your self-discovery journey, but it is possible if you are reading this devotional, you are ready to unlock your inner- beauty. The next time you look in the mirror, shift your focus to who God says you are. Remember He is not focused on your flaws, He is focused on your inner beauty, your heart. When God looks at our hearts, He is looking for our faithfulness, our true character, and our value as individuals. When you shift your focus from your flaws, or outer appearance, to what matters to God you unlock your inner beauty so you can be your authentic self. You can be the woman God called you to be!
Your Fellow Able Mom,
Karina
Heavenly Father, thank you for creating me just as I am. Your Word says that you look at my heart to determine my level of beauty. Today, I choose to take care of my outer appearance without neglecting to grow and nourish my inner beauty. Help me to remember who I am even when the world wants to give their opinion of who I should be. Teach me to see myself the way you see me. In Jesus Name, Amen!
Are you focusing too much on your outer appearance, while neglecting to nourish your inner beauty through God’s Word?
When the negative self-talk or words from others attempt to distract you from who God created you to be, how do you respond to those lies?
