We All Need Motivation

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.

- James 1:2

As a mom, I've often let life's distractions pull me away from my goal of becoming more like God and deepening my relationship with Him. Since having children, I've longed to reconnect with myself and immerse myself in my passions. But here's what I've recently realized: I've been chasing fulfillment in worldly things when my Father can provide it all. James 1:17 reminds us, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. His love is PERFECT, which means He NEVER changes based on circumstances or moods. When we seek joy in other things, we risk the "switch-up." Let’s be honest, moms—we've all been guilty of chasing after perfect love from someone or something here on earth. But why chase what our heavenly Father freely offers us every day?

I'm refocusing on receiving my perfect gifts from God. Let me share one way I'm working on this: by reading His Word. If we don’t read the Word, we can't possibly know what our God-given inheritance is, let alone apply it to our lives. Not only am I reading, but I'm also trying my best to apply what I read. James 1:23-24 tells us, “Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.” Imagine forgetting your own face—that would be pretty terrifying! I'd probably rush straight to the emergency room.

Moms, give yourself grace. We won’t get everything right on the first day, week, or even month. Here’s some encouragement from James 1:25: “Whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.” We love motivating our children, but just because we’re adults doesn’t mean we don’t need motivation too. When you're tempted to stray from aligning your actions with the Word, remember that if you do, you will be blessed in everything you do.

Your fellow Able Mom,

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unwavering love and the perfect gifts You provide each day. Help us to stay focused on You, seeking fulfillment in Your Word rather than the distractions of this world. Grant us the grace to grow in my relationship with You, and the strength to apply Your teachings in our lives. When we falter, remind us of Your promises and the blessings that come from walking in Your truth. Guide us as we strive to be more like You, and bless our efforts to align our actions with Your will. In Jesus' name, Amen.
